The TetraSpar demonstrator is the result of a successful cooperation between RWE, Tepco, Shell and Stiesdal Offshore Technologies. The project uses a wind turbine supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy with an installed capacity of 3.6 MW.
TetraSpar is stabilised by a suspended keel. This concept has the potential to offer significant competitive advantages, with its modular design consisting of a light steel tubular main structure allowing material costs to be reduced. In addition, the anchor lines for the TetraSpar demonstrator were supplied by Bourbon and installed at a depth of around 200 m. Bourbon was also responsible for towing and connecting the float and installing the inter-wind turbine cables.
The demonstrator was commissioned in December 2021, for an operating period of approximately 2 years, at the METCentre test site in Norway. As an integral part of the project team, RWE will obtain detailed and practical information and data on the construction, installation and operation of the TetraSpar concept.
Status: In operation since November 2021
